An impressive victory for Chad here in Newark

Suggy’s Gym pro boxer Chad Sugden stole the show on a big night of boxing when he was back in the ring on the card of Showdown at the Showground here in Newark on Saturday 22 March.

Chad’s record rose to 15-3-1 with an impressive points win over Serhii Ksendzov, a late replacement for his injured original opponent Zdenko Bule. And even though Ksendzov was a completely different proposition, with an awkward and tricky style, the Newark light-heavyweight didn’t allow the change of opponent to affect his performance.

He took control from the start, landing some eye-catching shots in the first round, and as the rounds progressed he got better and better, landing ferocious body shots that hurt his opponent and increasing the intensity had Ksendzov reeling as he hit the canvas. The referee could have stepped in during the last round when Ksendzov fell into him but he made it to the final bell.

“On a night that also included a victory for Newark-based super-middleweight Tom Cowling when he defeated Tom Ramsden on points, boosting his pro record to 14-1, Chad’s fight was definitely the stand-out fight of the show that was organised by Carl Greaves and myself as we worked together for the first time, teamed up to provide the town’s boxing fans with a night to remember,” said Suggy’s Gym head coach and Chad’s father Dean Sugden.

“To say it was a was a success is definitely an understatement – it was a slick and well run event with some amazing performances. And although the start of the new partnership for Carl and myself had its challenges, a problem shared is a problem halved and it made promoting a much more enjoyable experience.

“It’s great both for the town and for boxing and we look forward to working together for many more years to come.”
