Jade Grierson back in the ring this weekend

Suggy’s Gym pro boxer Jade Grierson will be back in the ring for her next fight on Saturday 6 September, at Sunderland Live Arena in Houghton-le-Spring, where her opponent will be former World Champion Sandy Ryan.

With five wins on her record since her first professional fight in December 2022, Jade will be looking to make her next fight another victory and the Suggy’s Gym team and her supporters will be there to cheer her on at the Matchroom Boxing event.

“Sandy, who is from Derbyshire, has had a total of eleven fights so far, seven of which she won,” said Dean Sugden. “In her senior championship debut in 2014, she won a World Championship silver medal – representing England she won a gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia – and in 2019 she was selected to compete at the World Championships in Ulan-Ude in Russia, where she lost by split decision.

“As a professional, despite becoming a world champion in 2023, Sandy Ryan believes her fight with Jessica McCaskill was her breakout moment in the sport.

“She became WBO welterweight champion in April 2023 when she defeated Marie-Pier Houle by unanimous decision. The 31 year-old made her first title defence against McCaskill, who was the WBC and WBA champion, in Orlando, USA when all three world titles were on line. This epic battle ended in a draw. Sandy then went on to knock out Terri Harper in four rounds to successfully defend her WBO World Title. More recently we have seen her box back to back against Mikaela Mayer in Box Office Pay Per View Events. The American comfortably outworked Ryan for a unanimous decision win (97-93, 97-93, 98-92) to retain her WBO welterweight world title in her second meeting with the Brit at the Fontainebleau in Las Vegas.

“She believes that these two fights along with her World Title give her the edge over Jade and reference DEEP waters. But Jade has trained harder for this one than any other and her date of destiny is nearly here now – hopefully her opponent has not overlooked her.”

The weigh-in for tomorrow’s fight is being streamed live on DAZN at 1pm today and you’ll find a full report of the fight, together with photos and videos, both here and on our Facebook pages so make sure you check them out after the event.
