Despite the last-minute cancellation of her first professional fight, which was due to take place at Nottingham’s Harvey Hadden Stadium on Saturday 8 October, Suggy’s Gym’s Jade Grierson has only a couple of weeks to wait till she makes that pro boxing debut.
The 31-year-old, who began training at Suggy’s Gym when she was just eight, will now be doing so on Saturday 22 October when she walks out into the ring on the card of the Stefy Bull Promotions NEW BEGINNINGS show in Doncaster.
“Finding out that my fight in Nottingham wouldn’t be going ahead was a massive disappointment, especially as so many of fellow gym members, friends and fans were going to be there to cheer me on,” said Jade.
“But within hours of giving me the bad news, my manager and coach Dean Sugden was back in touch to tell me that all the preparation over the last few weeks wouldn’t be going to waste.
“Now my focus is fully on the Doncaster match up and the fact that I’ve been given the opportunity to make my pro debut on Stefy’s show more than makes up for not being able to do so on the Harvey Hadden fight night.
“Stefy has steered Terri Harper to become a two-time World Champion and she’s someone I really look up to and admire.
“And what could be more appropriate than to have my pro debut on a show called New Beginnings, when that’s exactly what I’ll be making when I step into the ring in Doncaster?”
“Jade wasn’t the only one who was disappointed when we got the news that her original fight wouldn’t be going ahead,” said Suggy’s Gym head coach Dean Sugden. “I was gutted for her and I know the rest of the team and her army of supporters felt exactly the same way.
“But sometimes these things happen for a reason and now we’re looking forward to taking that army to Doncaster later this month.
“And doing so on this particular show is an added bonus. Stefy has had a lot of success stories with his boxers – I remember taking Fergus Taylor to box on one of his fight nights some years ago and now we’re delighted to be given the opportunity to be part of his next one. It’s a great platform for Jade and the ideal way for her to take the first step in her quest to become a successful pro boxer.
“If you were one of those who bought tickets to support her on last weekend’s fight night, you’ll need to return them to get a refund.
“But if you’re able to join us in Doncaster on Saturday 22 October, the payment you’ve already made can be put towards tickets for that one. Priced £50 for Bronze Open seating and £85 for second row Silver Table seating with meal included, we have a limited number for sale on a first come, first served basis.
“Just call Jade on 07729 428611 to check availability and join us in getting behind her for this exciting next step on what’s already been an incredible journey.”
