Suggy’s Gym’s first female professional boxer Jade Grierson is getting set to walk out into the ring early next month on the card of the aptly named Christmas Cracker show in South Yorkshire.
Since her exhibition bout against Terri Harper in October, 31-year-old Jade has been working hard developing her strength and conditioning in preparation for Sunday 11 December, when she will be up against a strong and durable opponent in the Czech Republic’s Ester Konecna at The Magna Centre in Rotherham.
“She’ll be taking on a tall and tough boxer in Ester, who’s only been stopped once in all of her contests to date, took the win against Matchroom debutante Monique Bux and has faced the who’s who of female boxing,” said her manager and coach Dean Sugden.
“There’s no doubt Jade will need all the support she can get for this but although the bout will throw up some issues for her, we would prefer an opponent who’s coming to win and that’s exactly what Ester will be doing.
“I’ve been training Jade here at Suggy’s Gym since she was just eight years old and we’ve both been looking forward to this moment since she turned pro earlier in the year. We’ve been preparing for this contest for a while and knowing that the pool of opponents is always smaller for women, we’re all delighted that it will be coming sooner rather than later, against the perfect opponent for her to showcase what she has to offer.
“Although Ester takes rounds off everyone she boxes, Jade will be looking for a complete shut out when she steps into the ring in just a few weeks’ time on the card of the show, which is being brought to Rotherham by Stefy Bull Promotions and RR Promotions.”
“It’s great to finally get a contest bout and I’m really excited to be ending the year showcasing my talent on this Stefy Bull Promotions show,” said Jade.
“It’s going to be fantastic day, not only for me but for all of the 100-plus family members, friends and fans travelling over to Rotherham with us for a brilliant day of boxing.
“This fight will definitely be a Christmas cracker – Ester is a very strong, very game opponent with a great record, so when I get the win against her we’ll hopefully see a few doors opening my way.
“Just make sure you watch this space because the team at Suggy’s Gym and I already have some big plans as we head into 2023!”
“The Magna Centre is an amazing venue that will provide an incredible atmosphere for Jade to make her pro debut and, as she says, it will be a real Christmas cracker, not only for her and the whole Suggy’s Gym team but for everyone there to support her and cheer her on,” added Dean.
“Boxing is scheduled to start at 2pm and Jade will be first on so we’re looking forward to sitting down with them all after it to celebrate her debut and then enjoy the rest of what is guaranteed to be an action-packed show together.
“With the limited number of tickets still available selling fast, you’ll need to contact Jade on 07729 428611 as soon as possible if you want to join us to do just that over in Rotherham on Sunday 11 December.”
