Suggy’s Gym pro boxer Chad Sugden celebrates his return to the ring with an eye-catching win

Almost two years after his last fight, Suggy’s Gym pro boxer Chad ‘2 Slick’ Sugden was back in the ring on Friday 12 April, fighting on the card of the 26RR Promotions show in Rotherham.

More than 200 of his family members, friends and fans made the trip to the Magna Science Adventure Centre to support him and cheer him on to victory against his opponent Ondrej Budera, who is ranked number 7 in the Czech Republic.

“What a class return to the ring after nearly two years out. Showing no signs of ring rust against a dangerous opponent, Chad’s timing was spot on and his punches strong and sharp,” said his father, Suggy’s Gym head coach Dean Suden.

“Despite the fact that this was his first fight in almost two years, he settled quickly into the contest. The first round was pretty even, with both boxers feeling each other out but Chad always having the first and last day in all exchanges which meant he won the first round.

“Although his opponent never stopped coming, Chad won every one of the six rounds with the referee scoring it 60-54 in favour of the Newark boxer. He proved that even after a long layoff his timing was on point and his punches were sharp, strong and flowing in an abundance.

“That said, after a nasty but accidental clash of heads in the second round, Chad had to rely on his composure and experience to remain calm and continue to land some eye-catching shots.

“With a high KO ratio and aggressive fighting style, Ondrej was keeping Chad on his A game throughout the six-round contest. Both boxers treated the crowd to some fantastic exchanges but Chad always got the better of the exchanges.

“Suggy’s Gym and Newark Amateur Boxing Club coach and professional boxer Chad just got better as the fight went on, landing some big shots in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth rounds, and earning a shut out on the referee’s score card.”

“A massive thank you to the team behind me at Suggy’s Gym, to my sponsors  and of course to everyone who travelled up to Rotherham to support me on the night – without the support of them all, this wouldn’t have been possible,” added Chad.

“I am very happy to get a good comeback win against a tough, dangerous opponent and as always the support was unreal from the rowdy Newark crowd.

“I’ve worked really hard behind the scenes to get myself in the best shape possible and h although everyone agreed that it was a job well done, as always there’s stuff for me to work on. But for now, I need to rest my eye, stay in shape and above all enjoy that win!”
