Newark’s Bailey ‘BadBoy’ Sugden is getting ready for the biggest night of his life following confirmation earlier this week that his debut on the international GLORY stage will take place at New York’s iconic Madison Square Garden.
The Suggy’s Gym rising star was one of three fighters awarded much-coveted contracts with the world’s biggest kickboxing promotion after the Road to GLORY UK show in Grantham on Saturday 11 March. He will now face native New Yorker Chris Mauceri in a Featherweight SuperFight on the card of GLORY 43 New York on Friday 14 July.
“When it was first suggested I could be heading to Madison Square Garden for my GLORY debut, it seemed almost too good to be true,” said Bailey. “But now it’s official and I’m beyond excited by the prospect of showing just what I’m capable of in a venue most fighters can only dream of getting to during their careers.
“Chris has a pro record of nine wins and five losses against my own of eight wins and one loss. He’ll have the home advantage, of course, and he’s fought some of the biggest names in the kickboxing world so this will be the perfect match up in which to make a name for myself. One thing is certain though – when I get into that ring, I’ll be putting on the performance of my life and I’m going to smash it!”
The Newark 19-year old will be following in the footsteps of big brother Chad ‘2 Slick’ Sugden, whose kickboxing career culminated in victory over Murthel Groenhart on the card of GLORY 23 Las Vegas in August 2015.
“To have two of my sons signed by the world’s leading kickboxing promotion is an achievement in itself,” said Suggy’s Gym head coach Dean Sugden. “But having them both fight in the US, in Las Vegas and New York no less? That’s massive, not just for me as their dad but for everyone in the team behind them.
“Before he made the switch to professional boxing, Chad was number 2 at Welterweight in the GLORY rankings. Now it’s Bailey’s turn to step up and fly the flag for Suggy’s Gym, for Newark and for the UK on the international stage.
“The action starts at 7pm EST (11pm GMT, 12 midnight BST) and, with the full card streaming live on UFC Fight Pass, Bailey will be showcasing his skills to a worldwide audience. It’s an unmissable opportunity for businesses looking to achieve massive exposure too, so anyone wanting to join the team supporting Bailey in his bid for glory as one of his sponsors should get in touch by emailing me on dean@suggysgym.com as soon as possible.”
