Two members of Nottinghamshire‘s foremost fighting family are set to share the same card on Saturday 16 March when they walk out into the ring at Nottingham‘s Harvey Hadden Stadium.
On a night which sees his younger brother Regis ‘The First’ Sugden make his pro boxing debut, 24-year old Chad ‘2 Slick’ Sugden will be bucking the trend to take on an unbeaten opponent on the card of Scott Calow’s NO HYPE REQUIRED.
With 10 fights to his name since switching to professional boxing in May 2016, Chad will be looking to add another win to his record when he boxes the hard-hitting Sebastian Slusarcyzk, originally from Poland and now fighting out of Nottingham.
“Sebastian’s not only unbeaten, he’s remained unbeaten as an away boxer and he has stopped 75 per cent of his opponents,” commented Chad.
“But if there’s one thing people know about me, it’s that I never shy away from a challenge and he’s going to find that, compared to any of the opponents he’s faced before, I’m a totally different proposition. This one won’t be going the distance and I’ll be the one that stops it doing so.”
Originally looking for an opponent prepared to take on Chad for the vacant Midlands Light Heavyweight title, the Suggy’s Gym camp was disappointed to find no local takers other than Shakan Peters.
“A Shakan fight would be bigger than a Midlands title so of course we were gutted when no one else was ready to step up,” said head coach Dean Sugden. “But we’ve found a strong and dangerous opponent in Sebastian and Chad will be going out there to prove that he walks the walk and doesn’t just talk the talk as so many others do, in what’s guaranteed to be a real tear-up of a contest.
“It’s going to be quite a night, not just for us but for all the friends and fans who have supported Chad and Regis over the years. Not only will they get to see Chad move things up a notch and be there to watch Regis take the first steps on his new journey – they’ll be seeing them both on the same card for the first time since 2014 in their pro kickboxing days.”
Returning to the discipline after an amateur boxing and kickboxing career which saw him win 132 of his 148 fights, followed by a successful and exciting time as a professional Mixed Martial Artist, 23-year old Regis is promising an explosive display when he opens the Harvey Hadden show. Still waiting for official confirmation of his opponent, he said: “Right now, I’ve got just three words for fight fans out there – don’t miss it!”
Tickets for No Hype Required, which is headlined by Sebastian Slusarcyzk’s training partner and stablemate Ekow Essuman defending his English title against Tyrone Nurse, are on sale now.
Priced £35 for standard seating and £60 for VIP Ringside table places, they are available from Chad or Regis, from Suggy’s Gym on Castlegate in Newark or via the ticket hotline 07816 840920.
